C. S. Lewis Writing Workshop - For Area Schools, Grades 5-10
The Northern Michigan C. S. Lewis Festival has created a free 4-6 week curriculum of Narnia-inspired writing workshops for language arts classes, grades 5 through 10. Lesson plans are provided (see above) for one class period of teacher-led workshops per week, including the stages of the writing process, Narnia-inspired prompts and projects, and Lewis-related tips relevant to creative writing. Art teachers are also encouraged to join the fun and have the students illustrate their stories!
We're inviting area teachers to pilot this material in their language arts classrooms this October/November in conjunction with the 2007 festival We welcome teacher and student feedback on the material, which we hope to offer to any schools that wish to use it in the future--around the state and beyond. The 2007 festival will conclude with a reading & reception for writing workshop participants & their families, hosted by the Petoskey Public Library "Friends of the Library" program on Monday, November 26.
Interested schools are requested to please fill out the teacher form (top of page) and send it to the address/fax/email listed on the form. And spread the word! Feel free to email this link to anyone else whom you think might be interested, including home-schooling parents. Questions? Leave a voice mail at 231-347-5550 and we'll get back with you.
"To Narnia and the North!"
